San Carlos Irrigation & Drainage District

Founded on July 16th, 1928, the San Carlos Irrigation and Drainage District (SCIDD) is a private company classified under Water Distribution or Supply Systems for Irrigation. Around fifty-thousand acres of non-Indian land is occupied by SCIDD, extending south from Florence, east to Coolidge, and west to Casa Grande in the Arizona Valley. With water sources coming from stored water from the San Carlos Reservoir and the Ashurst-Hayden Diversion Dam on the Gila River, the natural flow of the Gila River, groundwater within SCIDD lands, and interim Central Arizona Project (CAP) water, SCIDD is responsible for ensuring that the water is shared equally throughout its district.

Today, the San Carlos Irrigation and Drainage District, along with the help of George Cairo Engineering, Inc. and G.E.I. Consultants, has taken on a project of mammoth proportions. This project begins construction in 2010 and is estimated to last over the next ten years. The project includes: rehabilitation of the Ashurst-Hayden Diversion Structure, construction of a Settling Basin at the headworks, concrete lining of the Florence Casa Grande Canal and the Casa Grande Canal, new check structures, flow control structures, and flow measurement structures throughout the main and lateral system of the district.
